McKay Creek Golf Course

General Course DescriptionMcKay Creek golf

McKay Creek Golf Course is a 9-hole public course on the west side of Hillsboro, about 20 miles west of Portland. McKay Creek Golf Course is a short, rural course, with small elevated (and slanted) greens. The course has lots of trees, and you cross McKay Creek twice. McKay Creek Golf Course course has some interesting holes, particularly 7 and 9. The fairways are a bit choppy, but the small greens run well. There is one good hill, but the course is very walkable.

Course History

Built in 1995 (although the clubhouse is the original farmhouse built in 1929). It served as a dairy and a farm before becoming a golf course.

Why It Is There

The Reding family (meaning the extended Reding family) wanted to build and operate a golf course. And they did, using labor from family and friends. Now, being so close to downtown Hillsboro, and being fairly priced, the course has a steady clientele.

The 7th hole is a short par 4, dogleg right. It is easy to hit through the fairway left (or be blocked by trees on your approach shot). You can also fly the trees on the right, but there is a berm on the other side of the trees and if you go too far right you may not be able to get back. Short and center is a good thing.

Did You Know

The former pro, Julie Miller, took lessons from Ben Hogan.

Good For Them

The pros teach golf at Hillsboro Parks and Recreation. Member course for First Tee of Greater Portland and for Youth on Course.

Why Play This CourseMcKay Creek golf

A laid-back, family friendly course in generally good condition with a driving range and putting green. For the price, it is a nice course with nice facilities.
