Cross Creek Golf Course

General Course DescriptionCross Creek golf

Cross Creek Golf Course is an 18-hole public course is between Salem and Lincoln City on Highway 22 (or not too far off Highway 18). It is a very open, well-maintained, rural course with some water and traps. The holes are interesting and varied. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Forward tees provide benefit of distance and angles. Although some holes on the course have some uphill (in particular 9, 12, and 18), and it is a stroll between the 9th green and 10th tee, Cross Creek Golf Course is very walkable.

Course History

Front 9 was completed in 1998 and the back 9 in 2005.

Why It Is There

The course was a plum orchard that the then owner wanted to build into a 36-hole destination golf complex. Those plans fell through, and the owner sold off a portion of the property to Timothy Tarpley and Kathleen Tarpley who developed it into Cross Creek. It is now a regular play for the people from Salem and attracts players from as far as the coast.

I Wish I Would Have Known Before I PlayedCross Creek golf

Because of the ditch/creek that runs through most of the back 9 that you cannot see from the tees, best to take and use the free yardage book. In addition, don’t trust the yardage on the sprinklers on the 8th hole.

Did You Know

The plum trees near the clubhouse are part of the original orchard. (And yes, the tees are the color of the Oregon Ducks and Oregon State Beavers, but the owners and staff refuse to admit that is why the colors were used, probably to avoid offending folks from Western Oregon University or University of Washington.)

Good For Them

The course conserves water by having several rainwater collection ponds that are then used to water the course. It is the home course for Dallas High School and has reduced rates for juniors and college students. The course annually hosts a statewide OGA junior tournament. The course also annually hosts a tournament to benefit the Dallas Food Bank.

Why Play This CourseCross Creek golf

It is a well-cared-for, generally open course with a great rural feel. With the forward tees, it is a good course for a golfer learning the game. From the back tees are enough interesting holes (particularly on the back side) to challenge a good golfer. The relatively low price makes it a pretty good deal.
