Indian Creek Golf Course

General Course DescriptionIndian Creek golf

Indian Creek Golf Course is an 18-hole public course in Hood River that is a short, mostly narrow, target course that winds through orchards, natural areas, and subdivisions. Trees and views of Mt. Hood and Mt. Adams make it a very scenic place to play. Trees, water, traps, and a lot of fairway undulations make for an interesting and varied round.  Some holes are a little tricked up, but Indian Creek Golf Course is generally well maintained, and the staff is very friendly. When it blows (which is often), the gorge wind can totally alter the course. The course is hilly and there are several blind shots, so take a cart (which has a course book).

Course History

Built in 1990.

Why It Is There

Dave Martin was shagging balls in his backyard when he began to envision a golf course there. He, and his friends, then bought up 170 adjoining acres from 11 different owners and built the course.

I Wish I would Have Known Before I PlayedIndian Creek golf

Because of the elevation changes, turns, and hazards, study the course book (on the carts) if you have not played there before (or make sure you have a good yardage device or are playing with a friend who knows the course). On the par-4 3rd hole with a severe dogleg left, you need to go almost all the way through the fairway to have a shot at the green that avoids the left greenside pine tree. And much of the same on the short par-4 13th, a severe dog-leg right — go up the hill almost going through the fairway to have a good shot at the green, which is on the other side of a waste area.

Did You Know

Hood River Parks and Recreation maintains Indian Creek Trail that comes on and off the cart path.

Good For Them

Lots! They promote significant natural areas on the course; they encourage predator nesting to control voles and moles; and they use a farmer allotment of water that cuts off in September so they strive for quick (rather than green) fairways. They hold junior camps and clinics and participate in SNAG (Starting New at Golf), the PGA Junior Program, and the OGA Junior Program. They are host school for Hood River Valley and Horizon Christian. The course hosts many charity events, including an annual tournament benefitting the Oregon Burn Center at Legacy Emanuel Hospital.
