LakeRidge Golf Course

General Course DescriptionLakeRidge golf

[Note: In the winter of 2021-22 the course was for sale and phone was disconnected, but the local Chamber of Commerce stated that the course was open and on an honor system.] LakeRidge Golf Course is a 9-hole (18-hole with dual tees) public course just west of Lakeview. LakeRidge Golf Course is a typical pasture course in a confined space with mixed-grass fairways and greens, both uneven in surface and grass growth. There is no rough and the tee boxes have almost the same cut as the fairways. But the course is surprisingly long and generally open, with beautiful mature trees and a very friendly staff. The clubhouse is an imposing big red barn. Payment is through an honor box system. LakeRidge Golf Course is very flat and a nice walk.

Course History

Built in 1960, originally as a 7-hole course by Mark Clark (and it was then called “Mark Clark Golf Course”).  It was subsequently sold to the Men’s Club (who then sold it again, and it has been sold several times since). At some point, the course was remodeled to a 9-hole course with Charles Sullivan as architect. As of fall 2022, the course was actively being marketed.

Why It Is There

The original course in Lakeview is now the airport. When the original course closed, a few locals, led by Mr. Clark,  built this course. It is the only course for a long way in any direction.

I Wish I Would Have Known Before I PlayedLakeRidge golf

There is an irrigation ditch that runs through almost all the holes. On your second shot on the first hole, you can barely see that it is there. It is good to study the hole maps on the tee.

Did You Know

At 4,764 feet, this is one of the highest golf courses in Oregon (Silvies, outside of Seneca, has a few holes that are higher than LakeRidge).

Good For Them

The course uses little pesticides and has a healthy bird population. Juniors play at a significantly reduced rate, and the course is the home course for Lakeview High School (when it has a team).

Why Play This CourseLakeRidge golf

For the adventure. The Lakeview area of Oregon is an under-visited area with some beautiful natural areas.  If you are in the area, the course is reasonably priced with a very friendly staff.
