Meadows Golf Course

General Course DescriptionSunriver golf

The Meadows Golf Course is an 18-hole public course that is part of the Sunriver Resort. Part in the meadow and part in trees, the Meadows Golf Course is an attractive course with great views of the Cascades that is getting better each year. Although it is within a development and houses come into play, it is still a difficult course with all sorts of problems (trees, water, and in particular, traps). Well maintained with firm greens. Fairly flat and a nice walk. Forward tees generally provide an improved angle and shorter distances.

Course History

Originally opened in 1969, it was extensively remodeled in 1999 by John Fought. The greens were redone in 2015 and the traps were overhauled in 2017. It has hosted a wide variety of state and national events including the 2018 PNGA Senior Men’s Amateur, 2007 Senior Women’s Amateur, the 2005 NCAA Women’s Championship, the 2002 US Women’s Public Links Amateur, and multiple Oregon Opens.

Why It Is There

Built as part of the Sunriver Resort.

I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Played

In the summer, the greens are pretty hard, so unless you have really good spin, short and run may be the best approach. There are some optical illusions on the course. For example, on the 6th hole a relatively short par 4, it appears that the trap right is in the center of the driving area, but it is about 70 yards in front of the center of the green. On the 15th hole, a par 4, it appears that the green wraps behind the trap left. It does not, as the trap left is a few yards before the green.

Did You Know

Michele Wei played in the 2002 Women’s Public Links Amateur here and made it to the match play rounds . . . as a 12-year old.

Good For Them

They hold a series of women’s clinics in the summer for all ages. They hold 1-day junior clinics three times a week over most of the summer.  The resort was awarded Golf Digest’s 2009 Green Star Award for it’s efforts in preserving the natural environment. They work with the US Fish and Wildlife to preserve the Spotted Frog habitat along Sunriver Creek (that has its source on the 4th Hole), and work with the Sunriver Nature Center to coordinate best environmental practices for maintenance.

Why Play This Course

An attractive and challenging course in a beautiful setting. A price-accessible course that has hosted a number of national championships. Several tee options and a good practice facility (including putting course) make it a good place for a family. And if you have not played it in several years (as I had not), play it again; it has been much improved.
