Springwater Golf Course

General Course DescriptionSpringwater golf

Springwater Golf Course is a 9-hole public course just outside of the town of Estacada, about 30 miles to the southeast of downtown Portland. Springwater Golf Course is a rolling, tree-lined, very peaceful, rural course. The fairways are mowed, but a mix of dirt, grass, and weeds (the ball does roll far). The greens are small and mounded greens but with bare spots and multiple grasses (and weeds). After the first two holes, the course gets very interesting with twists and turns, ups and downs, and several water hazards. Although hilly, it is generally walkable.

Course History

Built in 1964 from a berry and hay farm. It used to be called Estacada Springwater Golf Course. It has gone through several owners, including Vickie and Patrick O’Meara, part of the Northern Willamette Valley O’Meara golf clan, from 1986 until 2017 when Rick and Tyler Main purchased the course through their company Main Fairway Inc.

Why It Is There

Original owner Bob Rexburg and family were tired of farming and enjoyed golf, so he built a course.

I Wish I Would Have Known Before I PlayedSpringwater golf

The 5th hole, a par 5 where you drive uphill between tall trees, the fairway then goes steeply down, earlier on the left. A drive too far on the left side could cause you to roll down the hill and be stuck behind trees. Driving  to the center or right of the hill is not a bad way to go. The 6th hole, a short tree-lined par 5, has a severe dogleg left (with a creek in the center of the dogleg) early and easily reachable from the tee. Trying to carry the dogleg may cause the ball to end up in trees on the opposite side. Longer hitters may want to consider driving over the trees on the left. Otherwise, you can still make par if your drive is short of the creek, center of the turn.

Did You Know

The pro shop is the original farmhouse.

Why Play This CourseSpringwater golf

One of the most peaceful courses I have played; the deer outnumbered the players.

I think the pictures are pretty old. In the summer of 2023, the course was brown and covered with weeds. The greens were in pretty poor conditions. Don't come here to post a score. But it was the quietest course I have ever been on.
