Woodlands Golf Course

General Course DescriptionSunriver golf

Woodlands Golf Course is a beautiful, well-maintained 18-hole public course within the Sunriver Resort south of Bend. Woodlands Golf Course has towering pine trees, target bunkers, and several risk-reward holes. The course is much drier and longer than its sister course, Meadows, and is well maintained. The greens were replaced during 2010 to 2014 and were in great condition on a rainy spring day in 2018. Forward tees provide better distance and angles. The course is somewhat hilly (especially on the back 9), but is a very nice walk.

Course History

Built in 1982. Other than the greens being replaced during 2010 to 2014, there has been no alteration to the course.  The course did lose over 200 trees during the winter of 2018-19. The course has hosted multiple Oregon Opens.

Why It Is There

Built as part of the Sunriver Resort.

I Wish I Would Have Known Before I PlayedSunriver golf

Hole 8 is a short par 4, strong dog-leg left with a tree near the middle of the fairway at the turn. After playing around the tree, I was told by the pros that the best way to play the hole is to aim at the tree and try to get it past (or at least to one side). (And make sure you get the code for the on-course bathrooms before heading to the first tee.)

Did You Know

For a while, the pro-shop was Nike-only (and now has lots of Nike clothes). This may be slightly influenced by the fact that Phil Knight played there.

Good For Them

Water for the course is reclaimed water from the local treatment plant.  The resort was awarded Golf Digest’s 2009 Green Star Award for its efforts in preserving the environment. The course annually hosts the Swings Fore Strings Golf Tournament to benefit the Sunriver Music Festival and its Young Artists Scholarship.

Why Play This Course

It is a very attractive course that is well maintained. The course itself is not simple or easy but is still a delight to play. The course has all the amenities you would look for at a superior resort course.
