General Course Description
Desert Peaks Golf Club is a very open, 9-hole public course just north of Madras in Central Oregon. The course has some water and trees, but no traps. Even though it is tucked behind an industrial area, it has good views of the Cascade Mountains. Desert Peaks Golf Club is a rural/pasture course, but is in very good condition. In season there are mosquitos. The course is flat and very walkable.
Course History
The first 6 holes were built in 1958, with 3 additional holes built in 1960. After a change in management, an additional 9 were added in 1992. In 1990, the course was reduced to 9 holes. In 2018 a new forward tee box was installed on the 7th hole.
Why It Is There
The City of Madras wanted a course. It is still the only course in the City.
I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Played
On the 4th Hole, rough crosses the fairway about 80 yards from the green and the fairway reappears about 20 yards from the green.
Did You Know
This course has had many names over the years: Madras Country Club, Nine Peaks Golf Club, and now Desert Peaks Golf Club.
Good For Them
They hold multiple junior clinics. The course annually holds several charity events including Pars for Paws benefiting the Three Rivers Humane Society.
Why Play This Course
It is wide open and long, so the course is receptive to players of all skill levels. It may not be a reason to come to Madras, but if you are staying in the area or traveling through with your clubs, the low price and good views make it a nice way to spend two hours (or less).
