Diamond Woods Golf Course

General Course DescriptionDiamond Woods

Diamond Woods Golf Course is an 18-hole, family-owned-and-operated, public course in farmland just north of Eugene. The course is a tale of two nines. The front 9 is very open, with tall rough, water, and traps, but fairly flat.. The back 9 is in the trees with steep ups and downs. Although the holes on the back 9 are not too narrow, the undergrowth will hide any errant shot.  Diamond Woods Golf Course is in a beautiful setting with a well-maintained layout. Fairways are mixed and the greens are consistent and true. Forward tees greatly improve angles and distance. Five sets of tee boxes allow groups with a variety of skill levels to have an enjoyable time. With the back 9, it is a hard walk.

Course History

Front 9 opened in 1997, and the back 9 in 1998. The name comes from a combination of baseball (Jeff played at OSU, in Japan, and with the St. Louis Cardinals) and the name of the sellers of the property.

Why It Is ThereDiamond Woods

The Doyle brothers (Jeff and Greg) and family (particularly Jeff’s wife Liz) wanted to build and operate a championship golf course. They bought a Christmas tree farm from Woody and Hildred Woods. The course was then designed by Greg and built by family, neighbors, and friends.

I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Played

Greens are biased to break toward Territorial Road. Hole 11 is a tree-lined 4 par where you drive to the top of a rise, and the fairway turns slightly right. There is a creek in front of the elevated green you may not be able to see, and the fairway stops about 25 yards in front of the green. Hole 13 is a steeply downhill, tree-lined par 5. As you approach the green there are a series of traps on the left, and the last trap ends about 40 yards from the green; carrying the traps may allow you to roll onto the green. Hole 17 is an uphill dogleg right 4 par (aim for the left side of the mesa on your drive) with a three-tiered green, the front right half is the lowest part.

Did You Know

The circles, triangles, and rectangles on the trees are to be used as an aide in marking your ball as it drifts into the forest.

Good For ThemDiamond Woods

They have buffers around the creeks and wetlands where they use no fertilizers or chemicals. They also have an integrated pest-management plan to reduce pesticide use. Water is done by hand to needed areas, and sprinklers were removed from non-essential areas. They hold tournaments to support scholarships for Monroe High School as support Honor Flights.

Why Play This Course

A very attractive setting for a great course with a good array of differing holes. The wonderful staff is a plus. All of this at a very fair price.

What a great place to play. Probably the best public 18 hole course in the Eugene area. Worth the drive.
