Eagle Creek Golf Course

General Course DescriptionEagle Creek golf

Eagle Creek Golf Course is a rural 18-hole public course, about 25 miles southeast of Portland, set among farmland. Eagle Creek Golf Course has good greens and some interesting holes, but limited difference between fairway and first cut. Front 9 is very open, back 9 is in the trees (some holes are really tight). Some traps and water, and several doglegs, add to the challenge. Great views of Mt. Hood, and a very friendly staff (and regulars). A good bargain so close to downtown Portland. The course is pretty flat and a nice walk.

Course History

Front 9 built in 1993 and back 9 in 1997. Built by John and Frank Bastach and now owned by John’s son, Jim. Changes seem to be made annually. Recently the course was lengthened and 8 and 18 rerouted.

Why It Is There

John and Frank Bastach wanted to build and operate a golf course.

I Wish I Would Have Known Before I PlayedEagle Creek Golf

Hole 5 (named in 1994 by The Oregonian as one of the worst holes in Oregon) is a long par 5 with a lake coming in to play about 210 yards out on the right (from the blue tees), which then moves further away as you go left. The drive is to the opening on the right and not straight. On 18, a short, tree-lined par 5 with a severe dogleg right, if you can’t hit a long and straight drive, you can lay up to the 150 marker and hit a punch shot through the trees (there is an open area in front of the green going this route).

Did You Know

You can camp in the open area next to the 17th hole (and they will bring a porta pottie out for you).

Good For Them

Ponds collect water that is used for irrigation. Limited use of chemicals (because of cost and water).

Why Play This CourseEagle Creek golf

I have mixed feelings about this course.

Pros: 46$ for a cart and 18 rounds. I'm not a Sr so I'm sure its cheaper for you folks. Its out of the way but I've never seen it packed. Laid back, bring the music and a cooler and the guy who shoots 150. The greens were in really good shape today. Took just over three hours to get through 18. Carts are old but they are fine. Its flat, super easy to walk.

Cons: 5 is poorly designed. Bail out to the left then jump the lake. Its a country course and the fairway is non existent on the front 9 just dried grass. This comes into play when chipping around the greens and iron shots. Very little forgiveness.

I play this course a lot because its cheap and close. If they had some money to renovate the fairways and redesign a couple holes it would be one of the best courses in Clackamas county.

Three stars only because I like the location. I'd recommend this course for a weekday round on the cheap.

Hate to even give a 1 star this should get 0 stars!!!!!!!
Horrible golf course! Crappy grounds. DRY AF! and the staff is incredibly rude!! Like who in their right mind drives on cart path in an actual car and yell out their window “I wanna go homeeeeeeeeee” at three guys having a good time finishing their last 2 holes?! If you guess a 50+ year old man in the passenger seat and some women driving. You are right! Yes the staff drove up on the course in a car and yelled out the window like a child complaining at these guys just trying to finish their round!!! I advise not to go here EVER!! I will be calling and speaking with the manager in the morning and if it’s the same people. I’ll be finding a phone number for the GM or even the owner!!! I’m pissed!!!
