Eagle Crest Resort Course

General Course DescriptionEagle Crest Resort Course

The Eagle Crest Resort Course is the first of the two 18-hole championship courses in the Eagle Crest resort and development just to the west of Redmond.  The Eagle Crest Resort Course is a bit less expensive and has a more relaxed feel than its sister course, The Ridge. Like its sister course, The Resort is an attractive course in an attractive setting (albeit a development) filled with junipers (and often deer), but with limited views of the mountains to the east. Several holes on both 9s go through a large meadow, so it has a more open feel than The Ridge.  Although houses line the fairway when you are not in the meadow, the trees hide and protect the houses better than The Ridge. The greens are smaller and less undulating than The Ridge, and there is more OB as there are no side-by-side holes, but the course seems more golfer friendly with broader fairways.  Like its sister course, the fairways and greens are very well maintained (although there are some soggy spots in the fairways), with the greens holding well while being reasonably quick and true. Trees, mounds, and traps are the primary issues, but water comes into play on two holes (especially on 17).  Forward tees provide shorter distances and improved angles. It’s a little hilly (particularly holes 2 and 3), but walkable.

Course History

First 9 opened in 1986 and the second 9 in 1988. Built partially on an old potato farm.  In 2010, the developer sold the property to Northview Hotel Group (and the 9s were switched), and in 2018, the property was sold to Eagle Crest Acquisition Group, LLC, part of KDG Capital.

Why It Is There

Built as part of the Eagle Crest resort and development by Jeld-Wen, Inc.

I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Played

The short par-5, sharp-dogleg-right, 2nd hole was named in 2017 by the OGA as one of the most interesting holes in Oregon.  From an elevated tee, you drop down into a narrow canyon (balls hitting the sides of the canyon may not drop down to the fairway). The yardage markers on the sides of the canyon mark the distance to the turn. Although you can cut the corner on your second shot, be mindful of the narrowness of the fairway after the turn. And on the par-4 10th hole that has a blind drive up the hill — middle is good.

Did You Know

The two ponds on the 17th hole are named “Eagle” and “Bogey.”

Good For Them

With The Ridge, the course annually hosts a tournament to benefit the local Ronald McDonald House.

Why Play This Course

A well-maintained and attractive course that is a bit more golfer-friendly and relaxed than The Ridge (this course feels more like a local course). The course has a very nice and accommodating staff, and good practice facilities. The multiple tee boxes allow play for a wide variety of skill levels. A nice place to play at a reasonable price (that is less than its sister course).
