Eagle Crest Ridge Course

General Course DescriptionEagle Crest Ridge Course

The Eagle Crest Ridge Course is one of the two 18-hole championship courses in the Eagle Crest resort and development just to the west of Redmond.  Sitting on a ridge above its sister course, the Eagle Crest Ridge Course is an attractive and well-maintained course. The course has an abundance of junipers (and more than the occasional deer) and provides very nice views of the mountains to the east. Although houses line the fairways, the junipers generally hide them (and catch most errant balls). The fairways are mixed, bare in a few places and soggy in a few others, but generally roll very well. The greens are large and undulating, hold well, and run fair and true. The trees and bends provide the primary challenges, but there are many traps and a few spots of water. The trees make the course feel narrow, but there are generally good-sized landing areas for your drive, and often there are mounds that bring your ball back to the fairway. Forward tees provide shorter distances and improved angles. It’s a little rolling, but a good walk.

Course History

Opened in 1992, the second course at the resort. In 2010, the developer sold the property to Northview Hotel Group (and the 9s were switched), and in 2018, the property was sold to Eagle Crest Acquisition Group, LLC, part of KDG Capital. The course has hosted many an OGA tournament, including the Oregon Open in 2006. It has also hosted the Northwest Open in 1999 and 2002. Since 1998, it has hosted the 4A/3A/2A/1A Oregon State Girls’ High School Golf Championship.

Why It Is There

Built as part of the Eagle Crest resort and development by Jeld-Wen, Inc.

I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Played

The wind comes over the butte to the west causing the grass to grow away from it. In general, putts towards the butte will be slower.  On the par-4 8th hole, it is a dogleg right at about 150 (contrary to the yardage book). And on 12, a short par 4, with a hard turn right at about 75 yards from the center of the green, don’t go right on the drive (you will be behind a trap, trees, and a hill) or on your approach (you will be in a deep trench next to the green).

Did You Know

The designer of the course, John Thronson, was also the first superintendent for the course.

Good For Them

Annually hosting the State High School Girls’ Golf Championship deserves applause. They also host a tournament to benefit the local Ronald McDonald House. And they do a lot to encourage junior golf: host Nike Golf Camps, host OGA Jr. League, provide free clinics for lodge guests, and serve as the host course for Ridgeview and Redmond High Schools.

Why Play This Course

A well-maintained and attractive course with nice views and a very nice and accommodating staff. In general, the course is pretty friendly, with well running fairways, open driving areas, and moundings that will assist your roll. The multiple tee boxes allow play for a wide variety of skill levels. Considering all the above and that you get a cart and yardage book, the price is fair.
