General Course Description
Golf City is a 9-hole par-3 public course on the road between Corvallis and Albany. Golf City provides a parklike setting with grass of uniform length covering the entire property and a variety of beautiful tall trees scattered around. Longest hole is 121 yards and most are less than 100 yards. Tees are all mats. Trees, slight elevation changes, and very small mounded greens make it more interesting than a simple par 3. Friendly family owner/operators. An enjoyable walk.
Course History
Opened in 1977 after being a driving range for about 20 years. The present owners purchased the course in 1996. It has held the Oregon State Peewee Championships several times.
Why It Is There
Verne Martin wanted to build a driving range, so he did. Mike Berstrom bought the property and wanted to build a golf course, so he did (and he planted all the trees). The Hayes Family bought Golf City many years ago and have continued to own and improved it.
I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Played
The greens are very hard and mounded, so playing one hop short and on may be a good way to go. With trees and undulations, probably need more than one wedge.
Did You Know
The course has the shortest par 4 in the state at 85 yards (you have to go around five trees and a dense undergrowth; although you could try to putt under the bush – I guess that makes it a risk/reward hole).
Good For Them
They hold several charity events (and give free rounds to charities), including the Bit By Bit Invitational, supporting an Oregon-based therapeutic riding program for kids.
Why Play This Course
Fast, fun, and friendly. A pleasant course to learn on, and play with someone just trying out the game. With small, mounded greens, Golf City is also a good place to work on your short iron accuracy.
