General Course Description
Greenlea is a 9-hole executive course just outside of Boring that is built on a former nursery with interesting holes as well as plants. Fairways are thick but uniform, and greens are generally consistent. Although there are some narrow holes lined with thick trees, Greenlea is a great course for a family and those learning the game of golf. Easy course to walk.
Course History
Walter and Muriel Markham built a nursery on the property in the 1930s. They converted it to a golf course in 1978. The Markham’s children sold the course to Scott Shields, whose first golf job was at the course. The Shields Family have been making improvements since.
Why It Is There
Mr. and Mrs. Markham thought a golf course would be a great way to fill their days during retirement. It is now a course that has a good community following.
I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Played
Par does not matter. Some of the 4 pars are reachable in one; some of the 3 pars require two shots to work around obstacles. On the 5th hole, a hard dogleg right, you need to drive your ball to almost under the trees straight away in order to have a shot at the green.
Did You Know
Remnants of the original nursery remain on the property, including very unusual species for the northern Willamette Valley such as Bristlecone Pine, Sequoias, and Blackhill Spruce. Some of the more interesting species have stone markers.
Good For Them
Hold junior camps in summer, member of OGA Youth On Course. Irrigation comes from a collection pond.
Why Play This Course
For fun and family, or if you want to see a Bristlecone Pine tree, or if you want a little more practice after playing Mt. View.
