On The River Golf & RV Park

General Course DescriptionGolf Myrtle Creek

On The River Golf & RV Park has a 6-hole, public, 3-par course that wanders in and around an RV park sitting above the South Umpqua River, about 13 miles south of Roseburg.  Tees are fake grass on wood platforms, and the greens are closer cut fairways. But in the 20 some-odd minutes it takes to play the course, you could find yourself having to hit under trees (growing in the fairway) and hit over the following:  trees, lava rock, sand, old farming equipment, a road, a creek, a pond, a lake, a fence, and cinder blocks. As you can tell, On The River Golf is just for fun. A short, flat walk.

Course History

Richard and Marcia Sumner opened the RV park in 1990. One night after the park was opened, Mr. Sumner was having a beer with a friend and they talked about what to do with the extra property. They thought about a golf course and that night Mr. Sumner took out the mower and built a hole. He did the same thing (had a beer and built a hole) the following five nights. On the seventh day, he played the course.

Why It Is There

As an amenity to the RV park.

Did You Know

The large pond is referred to as “Skidmore’s Pond” after a man who hit seven balls into the pond and then threw his clubs in. His “friends” came out the next day and placed a sign next to the pond with his name.

Good For Them

Water runoff from the RV park goes into the pond and is the sole source for irrigation. They use no chemicals on the course.

Why Play This Course

For giggles, alone, or in a group.  It’s pricing ($3 for 6 and $5 for 18, in 2021) fits that objective.
