General Course Description
Quail Valley Golf Club is a very open, well-maintained, and attractive 18-hole public course west of Portland that is surrounded by farmland. Good use of water and trees make it far from simple, although you can recover from most treed areas. Fairways are well maintained and the greens hold and run well. Quail Valley Golf Club has very good practice facilities. Forward tees provide benefits of shorter distances and better angles. The course is flat and very walkable.
Course History
Built in 1994 and annexed to the City of Banks in 2013.
Why It Is There
The owners thought that western Washington County did not have enough golf courses (this was before Pumpkin Ridge and The Reserve were being built). Now it is a popular alternative for Portland area golfers (including those in western Washington County).
I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Played
Holes 6, a three par, and 7, a four par, both have ridges dividing the left and right of the greens. On these holes, it is more important than normal to get the ball on the side of the green that the pin is on.
Did You Know
The course has the best score cards I have seen, with hole maps on the back that are almost as good as yardage books.
Good For Them
The course holds women’s clinics in the spring and junior camps in the summer. Juniors can play for half off (and free rental clubs are available). The course annually hosts state high-school golf championships. It is also the home course for Banks High School, Forest Grove High School, Catlin Gabel High School, and Pacific University.
Why Play This Course
It is a very attractive, open course that is well maintained, has very good practice facilities, is well priced, and is within easy reach of Portland. With fife sets of tee boxes, players with a wide variety of skill can enjoy Quail Valley.
