General Course Description
Santiam Golf Club is an 18-hole public course just east of Salem at the base of the Cascade Foothills. Santiam Golf Club is parklike with a variety of big, beautiful trees. Although some holes are fairly short, there are traps and water (and trees) that come into play that make most holes a challenge. Santiam Golf Club provides a simple layout with well-maintained greens and tees. Even though a state highway runs next to one side of the course, the course is surprisingly quiet. The course is flat, and is a nice walk.
Course History
First 9 built in 1957. Second 9 built in the early 1960s. Several modifications (particularly tees and greens) have been made since.
Why It Is There
Several local farmers thought a course in the area would be a good idea. The course is now owned by a corporation with over 300 golfers as owners.
I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Played
The 7th hole has a creek that bisects the fairway in the driving area. Information on the tee provides you the distance to the bridge on the right, which is the closest the creek plays to the tee. The creek angles away from the tee box behind the pine tree on the left. So the further left you hit it, the more room you will have (or the farther you need to drive it to clear the creek). Also, the greens, which are on the medium fast side, break about one half of what you see.
Did You Know
Since 1976, the course has been the host of an all-women’s event in August called “Chick’s With Sticks.” Over 120 women golfers from Oregon and Washington attend the event for a day of golf and lunch.
Good For Them
Home course for Regis and Stayton High Schools as well as Corbin University.

Really nice course and especially to walk. Played front 9 and nice and open. Yet, sand, trees and water, make it challenging. Just as the description tried to guide us....playing the left side of #7 makes the path over the water much easier. I, of course, did it the hard way!! ????????. Greens have a lot of “trick” to them, and where you land the ball really matters. Look forward to playing again, and would like to walk the full course! Pace of play was perfect!
