General Course Description
Stewart Meadows Golf Course is a park like 9-hole public course in south Medford. It provides a very nice walk among some beautiful and varied trees. Although short and generally open, Stewart Meadows Golf Course provides enough twists, trees, traps, and water to make it interesting. Fairways are maintained and the greens consistent. The course is flat and very walkable.
Course History
Opened in 1994.
Why It Is There
The original owner, a timber company, sought to diversify its business by opening a golf course. Now the course is well run, and has a loyal following.
I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Played
Hole 1 is a short par 4 with a creek that comes into play about 40 yards in front of the green (just beyond the fruit tree on the left of the fairway). You cannot see the creek from the tee and it is reachable.
Did You Know
The pro, Daniel Coughlin, has been there since the begining, enjoys his job (and he has a loyal following). Even as a visitor, it is more likely than not that you will hear your name on the loudspeaker as you approach the first tee (really, no pressure).
Good For Them
When it opened, the original owners hired several of its formal mill workers to work on the course. Some are still there. The course has created Monarch Waystations (patches of habitat friendly to butterflies) to improve the population of butterflies and other pollinators. The course hosts a charity tournament for the local elementary school.
Why Play This Course
A delightful walk in a park. Nice place to hone your game or to learn how to play.
