Valley Golf Club

General Course DescriptionValley Golf Club

Valley Golf Club is a 9-hole public course just off Highway 22 in the Burns/Hines area. Valley Golf Club has some interesting history and holes. It is a quintessential 9-hole (18 with dual tees) pasture course: built within a square space, basically flat, with fairways and greens having multiple grass types. The course is long with undulating fairways and mounded greens. Between mid-2010s and mid 2020s, the fairways and the greens were much improved. For guests (there is a membership with clubhouse rights), you generally leave your reasonable greens fee in an honor box and then go. If you do see an employee of the course, they are friendly and helpful. Valley Golf Course is compact and flat and an easy walk. Mosquitoes can be an issue in the summer.

Course History

Built in 1939 with three holes on property formerly owned by the Catholic Church. By 1951 it was extended to nine holes. The clubhouse was private for many years, but has recently opened to the public and is quickly becoming a popular community meeting space (with good food).

Why It Is ThereValley Golf Club

The local timber company started and improved the course for the benefit of its employees. The mill is gone and the City of Hines owns the course and it seems to have a good following.

I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Played

The 5th hole is a very interesting par 5, severe dogleg right. If you fail to get to the turn (which starts about 200 yards from the green), you will have to hit over trees to a narrowing fairway that severely undulates to an elevated green.

Did You Know

The cemetery for the Catholic Church that owned the property before the golf course is between the cart shed and the maintenance shed.

Good For ThemValley Golf Club

They are the host course for the combined Burns/Crane High School golf teams. They are hosting more charity events on the course and in the clubhouse including the Harney Hospital Foundation Golf Scramble and Cornhole Tournament.

Why Play This Course

If you are in the area, it has an interesting hole or two and is very family friendly (five- and sixsomes are possible, dogs can be seen next to golfers).
